Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, photographic paper exports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 626% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Burkina Faso (X square meters) and Togo (X square meters) represented the largest exporters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles in Western Africa, together committing 51% of total exports. Benin (X square meters) took the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Gambia (X square meters), Niger (X square meters), Mali (X square meters), Ghana (X square meters) and Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +67.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Niger ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Togo ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 54% share of total exports.

Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +60.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2021, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per square meter), while Gambia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, when their volume increased by 38% to X square meters. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ghana (X square meters) and Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters) represented the key importers of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles in 2021, resulting at near 24% and 23% of total imports, respectively. Nigeria (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Guinea (10%), Senegal (8.8%), Togo (7.3%) and Benin (5.1%).
