Exports by Country
Mali prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together committing a 10% share of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

In value terms, Mali ($X) emerged as the largest pig iron supplier in Western Africa, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mali totaled -29.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+10.4% per year) and Senegal (+412.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -85.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 617% against the previous year. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pig iron imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 256%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Togo represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 45% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Niger (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 48% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to pig iron imports into Togo stood at -86.9%. At the same time, Ghana (+19.0%) and Senegal (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +19.0% from 2012-2021. In value terms, the largest pig iron importing markets in Western Africa were Niger ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X), with a combined 56% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Niger, with a CAGR of +6.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -66.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 603% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
