In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Togo ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Senegal, Nigeria, Cabo Verde and Sierra Leone lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +48.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 2,236% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
