Cote d'Ivoire represented the major exporter of plastic lavatory seats and covers in Western Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 55% of total exports in 2021. Mauritania (X units) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (8%) and Nigeria (6.2%). Togo (X units) and Benin (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic lavatory seats and covers exports, with a CAGR of +41.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nigeria (+38.3%), Senegal (+3.2%) and Togo (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Benin and Mauritania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Nigeria, with a CAGR of +34.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -20.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +112.6% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sierra Leone (with a CAGR of +45.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Cabo Verde, Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso and Gambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Sierra Leone, with a CAGR of +56.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 33% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic lavatory seat import price increased by +46.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
