Sierra Leone (+16 p.p.), Togo (+15 p.p.), Ghana (+10 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal saw its share reduced by -3.3%, -14.6% and -22.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Sierra Leone, which together accounted for a further 46%.

Togo, with a CAGR of +67.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -31.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 120%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+25.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
