After three years of growth, shipments abroad of poultry-keeping machinery decreased by -29.2% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 1,175% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, poultry-keeping machinery exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt descent. Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the poultry-keeping machinery exports, with a CAGR of +22.3% from 2012 to 2022. Cote d'Ivoire (-6.7%), Senegal (-20.2%) and Togo (-21.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria, with a CAGR of +22.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -22.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 101%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, overseas purchases of poultry-keeping machinery decreased by -32.1% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, poultry-keeping machinery imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 70%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Nigeria (X units), Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Mali (X units) represented roughly 87% of total imports in 2022. Guinea (X units) and Togo (X units) took a little share of total imports.
