Prefabricated Buildings Market Size in Western Africa

The West African prefabricated buildings market contracted slightly to $X in 2022, dropping by -4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prefabricated buildings production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 67%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa

In 2022, approx. X units of prefabricated buildings were exported in Western Africa; with an increase of 33% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 175%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prefabricated buildings exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 150% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Senegal (X units) was the main exporter of prefabricated buildings, making up 42% of total exports. Ghana (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Niger (9.5%), Cote d'Ivoire (9.2%), Burkina Faso (6.9%) and Mali (6.8%). Benin (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Niger (+90.1%), Benin (+40.3%), Cote d'Ivoire (+24.5%), Mali (+11.7%) and Burkina Faso (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +90.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ghana (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Senegal, Niger, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso and Benin increased by +30, +9.4, +8.4, +5.1, +3.6 and +3.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest prefabricated buildings supplying countries in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Niger ($X), together comprising 80% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Niger, with a CAGR of +72.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Prefabricated Buildings Imports

Imports in Western Africa

In 2022, purchases abroad of prefabricated buildings increased by 4.2% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, prefabricated buildings imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 69%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of prefabricated buildings imports in 2022 were Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Niger (X units), Ghana (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units), together accounting for 70% of total import. Senegal (X units) took a 6.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mali (5.8%) and Guinea (5.2%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +36.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Niger ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 44% share of total imports. Mali, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

Among the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +28.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per unit), while Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
