The West African preparations for animal feeding market totaled $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. The total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Western Africa
After five years of growth, overseas shipments of preparations used in animal feeding decreased by -3.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 51%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preparations for animal feeding exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 82%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Mauritania represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons), together comprising a 41% share of total exports. The following exporters - Benin (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) - each reached a 3.2% share of total exports.
Mauritania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preparations used in animal feeding exports, with a CAGR of +69.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Senegal (+7.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ghana (-1.4%), Benin (-14.5%) and Nigeria (-29.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mauritania (+55 p.p.), Senegal (+21 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+6.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Benin and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -80.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mauritania ($X) remains the largest preparations for animal feeding supplier in Western Africa, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mauritania stood at +59.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+11.9% per year) and Nigeria (-17.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -39.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 65% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+16.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Preparations Used In Animal Feeding
Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, supplies from abroad of preparations used in animal feeding decreased by -13.2% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, preparations for animal feeding imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) was the main importer of preparations used in animal feeding in Western Africa, committing 67% of total import. Mali (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X tons). All these countries together held near 15% share of total imports. The following importers - Burkina Faso (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +37.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Mali, Guinea, Cabo Verde and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
Mali, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
