In value terms, Senegal ($X), Ghana ($X) and Togo ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Gambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Among the main exporting countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 187% against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Ghana (X tons) represented the major importer of prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals, comprising 36% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Gambia (X tons) and Togo (X tons). All these countries together took near 49% share of total imports. Sierra Leone (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals in Western Africa, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 11% share.

In Ghana, preserved cows meat imports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nigeria (+1.1% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+4.7% per year).
