In 2021, approx. X units of printers, copying machines and facsimile machines were exported in Western Africa; waning by -49.6% against the previous year. In general, exports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 64%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, printers and copying machines exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. In 2021, Liberia (X units) was the largest exporter of printers, copying machines and facsimile machines, mixing up 33% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X units), Mali (X units), Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Benin (X units), together creating a 58% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to printers and copying machines exports from Liberia stood at +27.0%. At the same time, Benin (+59.1%) and Togo (+38.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +59.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mali (-7.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (-15.4%), Ghana (-17.8%) and Senegal (-19.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Liberia ($X) remains the largest printers and copying machines supplier in Western Africa, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mali ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Liberia amounted to +49.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (-13.0% per year) and Senegal (-13.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 49% against the previous year. Export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, printers and copying machines export price increased by +83.1% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Liberia ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Liberia (+17.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, purchases abroad of printers, copying machines and facsimile machines was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, printers and copying machines imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of about X units, which reached 47% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Senegal (X units) and Ghana (X units), together generating a 36% share of total imports. Mali (X units), Togo (X units), Niger (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Nigeria decreased at an average annual rate of -4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mali (+18.7%), Niger (+16.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+15.4%), Togo (+14.0%) and Senegal (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-3.5%) and Burkina Faso (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Mali and Togo increased by +14, +4.1, +3.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Niger, with a CAGR of +21.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 29%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
