The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 456% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rabbit meat exports totaled $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 303% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2020, falling by -58.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 960%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2020, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cote d'Ivoire.

Imports in Western Africa

For the third consecutive year, Western Africa recorded decline in supplies from abroad of rabbit or hare meat, which decreased by -8.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, rabbit meat imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Benin (X tons) and Mali (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2022. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.4% share, followed by Guinea (9.1%), Niger (8.4%), Burkina Faso (5.8%) and Cabo Verde (4.7%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +33.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mali ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rabbit or hare meat in Western Africa, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Benin ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 12% share.
