In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the West African raspberry and blackberry market, when its value decreased by -18.9% to $X. Exports in Western Africa

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of raspberries and blackberries increased by 803% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed strong growth. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong expansion. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mauritania prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Benin (X tons), generating a 9.8% share of total exports.

Mauritania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries exports, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Benin (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Benin (+9.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Mauritania (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Mauritania ($X) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in Western Africa, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Benin ($X), with a 0.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mauritania amounted to +6.2%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -29.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports in Western Africa

After eight years of growth, overseas purchases of raspberries and blackberries decreased by -0.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 92%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the one major importers of raspberries and blackberries, namely Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries imports, with a CAGR of +19.2% from 2012 to 2022. Cote d'Ivoire (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In Cote d'Ivoire, raspberry and blackberry imports increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the period from 2012-2022.
