The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Guinea was the main exporter of roasted coffee in Western Africa, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together creating a X% share of total exports. Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest roasted coffee supplying countries in Western Africa were Guinea ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Senegal ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, supplies from abroad of roasted coffee decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, roasted coffee imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Burkina Faso represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached X% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Mali (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Cabo Verde (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Burkina Faso increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (X%), Mali (X%), Nigeria (X%), Senegal (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cabo Verde (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.) and Mali (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Cabo Verde saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
