As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The following importers - Ghana (X tons), Benin (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Niger (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

Imports into Nigeria decreased at an average annual rate of -16.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Niger (+26.7%), Cote d'Ivoire (+20.9%), Benin (+10.9%) and Senegal (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +26.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ghana (-4.3%) and Sierra Leone (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sierra Leone (+4.6 p.p.), Senegal (+3.9 p.p.), Benin (+3.2 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+3.1 p.p.), Ghana (+2.7 p.p.) and Niger (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -20.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roasted malt in Western Africa, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sierra Leone ($X), with a 6.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 4% share.

In Nigeria, roasted malt imports shrank by an average annual rate of -14.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sierra Leone (-9.2% per year) and Senegal (-0.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 21%.
