In 2021, textile rubber hose exports in Western Africa soared to X tons, with an increase of 160% on the previous year. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 161%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, textile rubber hose exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 71%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Sierra Leone (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the largest exporter of rubber hose reinforced with textiles in Western Africa, comprising 83% of total export. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), together mixing up a 12% share of total exports. Nigeria (X kg) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +70.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest textile rubber hose supplying countries in Western Africa were Sierra Leone ($X), Benin ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 67% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
For the fourth consecutive year, Western Africa recorded growth in overseas purchases of rubber hose reinforced with textiles, which increased by 9.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, textile rubber hose imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 77%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Ghana (X tons) was the main importer of rubber hose reinforced with textiles, mixing up 46% of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Mali (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to textile rubber hose imports into Ghana stood at +6.2%. At the same time, Guinea (+31.0%), Senegal (+29.6%), Burkina Faso (+25.7%), Cote d'Ivoire (+14.8%) and Mali (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +31.0% from 2012-2021. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Guinea, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire and Mali increased by +6.9, +6.5, +5.1, +4 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rubber hose reinforced with textiles in Western Africa, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guinea ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Burkina Faso, with a 12% share.
In Ghana, textile rubber hose imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guinea (+33.8% per year) and Burkina Faso (+24.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 37%. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
