In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of rubber tubing not reinforced, when their volume increased by 127% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-reinforced rubber tubing exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 99%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Sierra Leone dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 69% of total exports in 2021. Niger (X kg) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) and Burkina Faso (X kg). All these countries together took near 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Mauritania (X kg) and Nigeria (X kg) - together made up 7.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-reinforced rubber tubing exports from Sierra Leone stood at +40.5%. At the same time, Mauritania (+47.6%), Niger (+6.2%), Burkina Faso (+5.1%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +47.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nigeria (-30.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sierra Leone (+66 p.p.), Mauritania (+4.1 p.p.), Niger (+3.8 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+2.8 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -69.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Sierra Leone ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 69% of total exports. These countries were followed by Niger, Burkina Faso and Mauritania, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main exporting countries, Mauritania, with a CAGR of +55.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -32.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 113% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Sierra Leone ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of rubber tubing not reinforced were imported in Western Africa; jumping by 59% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-reinforced rubber tubing imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Based on 2021 figures, non-reinforced rubber tubing import price decreased by -10.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 59%.
