Exports in Western Africa
Safety glass exports contracted sharply to X square meters in 2022, with a decrease of -18.6% against the previous year. Total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +18.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, safety glass exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +12.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Nigeria (X square meters), Benin (X square meters) and Burkina Faso (X square meters) represented roughly 56% of total exports in 2022. Senegal (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.2% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (8.1%), Sierra Leone (7%), Mali (6%), Ghana (5.5%) and Niger (5.3%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +41.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest safety glass supplying countries in Western Africa were Niger ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Benin ($X), together comprising 52% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Benin, with a CAGR of +28.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2022, declining by -12.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 53% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per square meter), while Burkina Faso ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa
Safety glass imports soared to X square meters in 2022, increasing by 22% on 2021. Overall, imports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, safety glass imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Nigeria (X square meters) represented the largest importer of safety glass, constituting 35% of total imports. Senegal (X square meters) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (16%), Cote d'Ivoire (13%) and Cabo Verde (4.6%). Mauritania (X square meters) and Togo (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported safety glass in Western Africa, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 15% share.
In Nigeria, safety glass imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+11.2% per year) and Senegal (+23.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 126%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per square meter), while Senegal ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
