Screwdriver Market Size in Western Africa

The West African screwdriver market soared to $X in 2021, jumping by 27% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Screwdriver Production in Western Africa

In value terms, screwdriver production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -14.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Western Africa

In 2021, overseas shipments of screwdrivers decreased by -50.1% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 138% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, screwdriver exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 172% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Togo was the key exporting country with an export of around X kg, which reached 51% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sierra Leone (X kg), Nigeria (X kg), Liberia (X kg) and Cote d'Ivoire (X kg), together making up a 43% share of total exports. Ghana (X kg) and Senegal (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Togo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the screwdrivers exports, with a CAGR of +40.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sierra Leone (+21.9%), Liberia (+4.1%), Ghana (+3.8%) and Senegal (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-11.2%) and Nigeria (-17.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Togo (+49 p.p.), Sierra Leone (+15 p.p.) and Liberia (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire (-7.4 p.p.) and Nigeria (-59.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sierra Leone ($X) remains the largest screwdriver supplier in Western Africa, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 12% share.

In Sierra Leone, screwdriver exports expanded at an average annual rate of +34.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+14.6% per year) and Nigeria (-15.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+14.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, approx. X tons of screwdrivers were imported in Western Africa; increasing by 12% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 14%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, screwdriver imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 34% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Togo (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Guinea (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 54% share of total imports. Gambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +37.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total imports.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +22.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
