In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Togo ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 88% of total exports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, which accounted for a further 12%.
Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +26.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -19.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+37.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +17.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Burkina Faso increased by +6.1 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 72% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +22.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
