The following importers - Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to slate imports into Nigeria stood at +23.2%. At the same time, Ghana (+89.5%), Senegal (+11.2%), Gambia (+9.6%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +89.5% from 2012-2021. Mauritania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Ghana (+26 p.p.) and Nigeria (+17 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Gambia (-1.7 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (-3.5 p.p.), Senegal (-5.4 p.p.) and Mauritania (-6.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported slate in Western Africa, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria totaled +24.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+99.6% per year) and Senegal (+10.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton.
