Sleeping Bag Market Size in Western Africa

In 2021, the West African sleeping bag market decreased by -6.7% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In 2021, shipments abroad of sleeping bags was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports saw prominent growth. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sleeping bag exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded strong growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Senegal represented the largest exporter of sleeping bags in Western Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), mixing up a 23% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sleeping bag exports from Senegal stood at +12.5%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+33.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +33.6% from 2012-2021. Senegal (+29 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest sleeping bag supplier in Western Africa, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed buoyant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+17.8%).

In 2021, the amount of sleeping bags imported in Western Africa declined to X units, waning by -7.4% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 183% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
