Cote d'Ivoire prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2021. Mali (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together held near 10% share of total exports. Senegal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire decreased at an average annual rate of -7.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mali (+15.9%) and Senegal (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +15.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nigeria (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mali and Senegal increased by +4.6 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest organic pigments supplier in Western Africa, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mali ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 4.6% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, organic pigments exports contracted by an average annual rate of -10.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mali (+10.1% per year) and Senegal (-1.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 32%. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, organic pigments imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Nigeria represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 52% of total imports. Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+9.7%), Senegal (+5.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+3.7%) and Ghana (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012-2021. Mali experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Togo (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria increased by +2.2 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported synthetic organic coloring matter and pigments in Western Africa, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 14% share.
