Senegal represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 51% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Mali (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units). All these countries together held near 49% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Senegal (with a CAGR of +30.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) emerged as the largest tanned or dressed furskins supplier in Western Africa, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Burkina Faso totaled -35.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Senegal (+21.3% per year) and Nigeria (-11.9% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 182% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (-3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of tanned or dressed furskins decreased by -30.9% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 236% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, tanned or dressed furskins imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Ghana (X units) was the largest importer of tanned or dressed furskins, making up 52% of total imports. Mauritania (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Senegal (X units). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total imports. Nigeria (X units), Cabo Verde (X units) and Benin (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Ghana (with a CAGR of +35.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mauritania ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tanned or dressed furskins in Western Africa, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mauritania stood at +33.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+12.7% per year) and Nigeria (+10.5% per year).
