Exports in Western Africa
In 2021, shipments abroad of thiosulphates was finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The shipments of the one major exporters of thiosulphates, namely Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the thiosulphates exports, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) also remains the largest thiosulphates supplier in Western Africa.
In Cote d'Ivoire, thiosulphates exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by -28.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 196% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cote d'Ivoire.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to -3.7% per year.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2021, imports of thiosulphates in Western Africa surged to X tons, increasing by 19% compared with 2020. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 147%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, thiosulphates imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 279%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Mali dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Guinea (X tons), committing a 5.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Ghana (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.8% share of total imports.
Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the thiosulphates imports, with a CAGR of +100.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guinea (+83.3%), Ghana (+24.1%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+19.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Mali (+87 p.p.) and Guinea (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mali ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported thiosulphates in Western Africa, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guinea ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 2.4% share.
In Mali, thiosulphates imports expanded at an average annual rate of +100.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guinea (+61.9% per year) and Ghana (+14.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, thiosulphates import price decreased by -0.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Mali ($X per ton) and Ghana ($X per ton), while Guinea ($X per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
