Senegal dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mali (X units), creating a 7.2% share of total exports. Nigeria (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Senegal increased at an average annual rate of +27.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mali (+52.5%) and Burkina Faso (+21.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +52.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nigeria (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Senegal and Mali increased by +61 and +6.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest tuner block supplier in Western Africa, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mali ($X), with a 4.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 3.2% share.

In Senegal, tuner block exports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (+43.6% per year) and Nigeria (-11.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 37%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Burkina Faso ($X per unit) and Senegal ($X per unit), while Mali ($X per unit) and Nigeria ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of tuner blocks, when their volume decreased by -32.3% to X units. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 96%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, tuner block imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 127%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Ghana (X units) and Nigeria (X units) represented the main importers of tuner blocks in 2021, reaching near 32% and 32% of total imports, respectively. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Guinea (5%), Mali (5%) and Togo (4.9%). Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +38.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tuner blocks in Western Africa, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 10% share.
