The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 179% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncooked pasta exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 221%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons), together creating a 31% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to uncooked pasta exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at -8.7%. At the same time, Nigeria (+39.6%) and Senegal (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +39.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Togo (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+9.8 p.p.), Nigeria (+7.7 p.p.) and Togo (+3.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire (-3.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest uncooked pasta supplier in Western Africa, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 11% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, uncooked pasta exports contracted by an average annual rate of -12.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Senegal (+4.5% per year) and Nigeria (+26.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -16.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 15%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa

In 2021, approx. X tons of uncooked pasta were imported in Western Africa; shrinking by -7.3% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Ghana represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 30% of total imports. Benin (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Niger (12%), Togo (11%), Burkina Faso (7.9%) and Gambia (5.4%). The following importers - Mali (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Liberia (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Togo (+27.9%), Gambia (+15.8%), Benin (+15.3%), Guinea (+12.6%), Liberia (+12.5%), Niger (+7.1%), Senegal (+6.7%), Cote d'Ivoire (+6.7%), Mali (+3.3%) and Burkina Faso (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2021. Mauritania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Ghana (+12 p.p.), Togo (+7.8 p.p.), Benin (+3.9 p.p.) and Gambia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mali (-3.7 p.p.), Niger (-4.1 p.p.), Mauritania (-5.5 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported uncooked pasta in Western Africa, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Niger ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Benin, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana amounted to +15.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Niger (+9.6% per year) and Benin (+16.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight decrease. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
