In 2021, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the key exporter of uncooked pasta (not containing eggs), making up 68% of total exports. Senegal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Togo (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Nigeria (X tons) and Niger (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.9% share of total exports.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire decreased at an average annual rate of -8.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nigeria (+56.0%) and Senegal (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +56.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Togo (-2.4%) and Niger (-20.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (+9.8 p.p.), Nigeria (+4.4 p.p.) and Togo (+3.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire (-3.3 p.p.) and Niger (-8.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) supplier in Western Africa, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a 10% share.

In Cote d'Ivoire, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) exports shrank by an average annual rate of -12.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+4.5% per year) and Togo (-1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -16.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. Imports in Western Africa

Uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports contracted modestly to X tons in 2021, which is down by -4.1% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Ghana represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 38% of total imports. Benin (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Burkina Faso (9.4%), Niger (7%), Guinea (5.1%) and Cote d'Ivoire (4.9%). Senegal (X tons), Gambia (X tons), Mali (X tons), Liberia (X tons) and Mauritania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports into Ghana stood at +17.4%. At the same time, Guinea (+18.4%), Benin (+15.6%), Liberia (+15.5%), Cote d'Ivoire (+12.1%), Gambia (+8.5%) and Senegal (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012-2021. Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mauritania (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+19 p.p.), Benin (+6.7 p.p.) and Guinea (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Niger saw its share reduced by -4.5%, -7%, -8.6% and -8.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) in Western Africa, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Benin ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Niger, with a 7.6% share.

In Ghana, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports expanded at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Benin (+16.5% per year) and Niger (+1.5% per year).
