In 2022, exports of tobacco (unmanufactured) in Western Africa declined slightly to X tons, with a decrease of -3.9% compared with the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 92%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 93%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Senegal (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Niger (X tons), committing a 7.3% share of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Niger (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest unmanufactured tobacco supplier in Western Africa, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Senegal was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+15.9% per year) and Niger (+51.4% per year).
