In value terms, vacuum vessel exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Ghana (X units) was the main exporter of vacuum vessels, generating 44% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Mali (X units), Niger (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units). All these countries together took approx. 48% share of total exports. Guinea (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 152% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Mali ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of vacuum vessels decreased by -28.9% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. In general, imports saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vacuum vessel imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the largest importer of vacuum vessels in Western Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 58% of total imports in 2022. By contrast, Ghana (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Senegal, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire and Sierra Leone increased by +7.5, +3.6, +2.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 74% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +32.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vacuum vessel import price increased by +93.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 35% against the previous year.
