Nigeria (X tons) and Togo (X tons) represented roughly 45% of total imports in 2021. Guinea (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ghana (9.3%), Cote d'Ivoire (8.7%), Benin (6.5%) and Senegal (6.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Togo ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Guinea ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Benin, which together accounted for a further 29%.

Benin, with a CAGR of +36.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 2% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, vulcanised rubber thread import price increased by +14.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
