Gambia represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X cubic meters, which recorded 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Liberia (X cubic meters), making up a 32% share of total exports.
Gambia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wood chips and particles exports, with a CAGR of -3.4% from 2012 to 2022. Liberia (-18.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Gambia (+47 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Liberia saw its share reduced by -17.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, imports of wood chips and particles in Western Africa reduced notably to X cubic meters, declining by -20.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a drastic downturn. Cote d'Ivoire (X cubic meters) and Ghana (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +52.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wood chips and particles in Western Africa, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Gambia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 14% share.
