In general, imports posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the largest importer of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp in Western Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 64% of total imports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 35% share of total imports.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp in Western Africa, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria totaled +17.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+27.1% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+18.4% per year).
