In 2021, the West African man-made filament fabric market decreased by -7.8% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports reduced to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Gambia prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. Ghana (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to man-made filament fabric exports from Gambia stood at -3.1%. At the same time, Ghana (+30.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of +30.4% from 2012-2021. Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by -4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After six years of growth, purchases abroad of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers decreased by -8.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers, namely Ghana, Senegal, Togo and Nigeria, represented more than half of total import. Mauritania (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Gambia (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Benin (X tons). All these countries together held near 37% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +19.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest man-made filament fabric importing markets in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Mauritania ($X), together accounting for 55% of total imports.

Senegal, with a CAGR of +26.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
