In 2021, Nigeria (X units), distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Senegal (X units) represented the key exporters of x-ray tubes, together making up 94% of total exports. The following exporters - Togo (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units) - each amounted to a 5.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest x-ray tube supplier in Western Africa, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria stood at +14.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+38.0% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+42.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, x-ray tube export price decreased by -14.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 455% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, x-ray tube imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Nigeria prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 91% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Guinea (X units), Mauritania (X units) and Senegal (X units) - each finished at a 5.1% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the x-ray tubes imports, with a CAGR of +38.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guinea (+36.5%), Mauritania (+21.6%) and Senegal (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Nigeria (+44 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Senegal (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported x-ray tubes in Western Africa, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritania ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to +17.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritania (+14.5% per year) and Senegal (+2.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -78.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
