Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, synthetic yarn exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Senegal was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Mali (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports. Sierra Leone (X tons) and Niger (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to synthetic yarn exports from Senegal stood at X%. At the same time, Niger (X%) and Nigeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Mali (X%), Ghana (X%) and Sierra Leone (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.) and Niger (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Sierra Leone and Ghana saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Senegal amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sierra Leone (X% per year) and Ghana (X% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, synthetic yarn imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X%. The following importers - Guinea (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total imports.
