Moreover, Taiwan (Chinese) emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belgium (-2.9%) and the United States (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and Taiwan (Chinese) increased by +25 and +4.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest acetic acid supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), the United States ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 52% of global exports. Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan (Chinese) and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
Among the main exporting countries, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +27.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.0% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

At the same time, Japan (+18.7%), South Korea (+12.6%), Turkey (+12.3%), Singapore (+11.1%), Thailand (+6.5%) and Brazil (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012-2021. Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mexico (-2.0%) and Indonesia (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+14 p.p.), Japan (+2.9 p.p.), Singapore (+1.9 p.p.) and South Korea (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Germany, Mexico and Belgium saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -4.1% and -7.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported acetic acid worldwide, comprising 27% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 11% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.4% share.
