In 2022, the global aircraft market increased by 578% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption showed a significant expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Aircraft Production

In value terms, aircraft production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 133%. Over the period under review, global production attained the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of airplanes and other aircraft decreased by -43.9% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 185% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aircraft exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 124%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 68% of total exports in 2022. France (X units), Poland (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and South Korea (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the airplanes and other aircraft exports, with a CAGR of +54.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+30.9%), South Korea (+25.2%), Poland (+24.7%), France (+17.6%) and Italy (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of China (+63 p.p.), the Netherlands (+1.7 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (-6.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest aircraft supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), Italy ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 28% of global exports.

China, with a CAGR of +28.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average aircraft export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 184% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.3%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports

In 2022, overseas purchases of airplanes and other aircraft increased by 587% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aircraft imports fell notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 140%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Philippines dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Argentina (X units), Australia (X units) and Brazil (X units) - together made up 6.4% of total imports.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the airplanes and other aircraft imports, with a CAGR of +130.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Argentina (+44.2%), Australia (+22.2%) and Brazil (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. The Philippines (+86 p.p.) and Argentina (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -12.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest aircraft importing markets worldwide were Brazil ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Australia ($X), with a combined 23% share of global imports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +60.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average aircraft import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -92.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 62% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.5%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
