China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the apparel of leather or of composition leather exports, with a CAGR of +62.9% from 2020 to 2022. At the same time, the United States (+36.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. China (+7.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the United States saw its share reduced by -6.9% from 2020 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest leather apparel supplier worldwide, comprising 6.6% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 3.1% share of global exports.
In China, leather apparel exports increased at an average annual rate of +30.1% over the period from 2020-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average leather apparel export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -38.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a sharp slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 a decrease of -21.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while China stood at $X per unit.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-16.9%).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of apparel of leather or of composition leather increased by 14% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 615%. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, leather apparel imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 9.8%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X units) represented the key importer of apparel of leather or of composition leather, achieving 71% of total imports. Russia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by China (X units). All these countries together took approx. 26% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the apparel of leather or of composition leather imports, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, China (-18.5%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-20.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the United States, Russia and China increased by +71, +16 and +9.2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported apparel of leather or of composition leather worldwide, comprising 15% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 4.6% share of global imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 3.9% share.
In the United States, leather apparel imports declined by an average annual rate of -3.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-1.4% per year) and Russia (-4.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average leather apparel import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 219%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the United States ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+47.9%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
