In 2022, global artificial fur exports expanded slightly to X tons, picking up by 1.6% on 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 40%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, artificial fur exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

China was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 62% of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (5.6%). The following exporters - Italy (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) - each recorded a 5.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to artificial fur exports from China stood at +15.0%. At the same time, Thailand (+23.5%), Belarus (+13.3%), Italy (+12.0%) and Syrian Arab Republic (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Netherlands (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and Thailand increased by +28 and +4.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest artificial fur supplier worldwide, comprising 55% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +14.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+12.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+9.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average artificial fur export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Global artificial fur imports was estimated at X tons in 2022, standing approx. at 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +8.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, artificial fur imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand represented the major importer of artificial fur in the world, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 33% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.6% share, followed by Belarus (6.5%), Italy (6.2%) and Myanmar (5.9%). Vietnam (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons), the United States (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to artificial fur imports into Thailand stood at +40.8%. At the same time, Myanmar (+132.7%), Cambodia (+51.8%), the Philippines (+42.4%), Vietnam (+25.2%), Italy (+13.5%), Belarus (+10.5%), Russia (+7.7%), the Netherlands (+6.4%) and France (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +132.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mexico (-2.3%), the UK (-2.6%) and the United States (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+31 p.p.), Myanmar (+5.9 p.p.), Italy (+3.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+3 p.p.), Belarus (+2.9 p.p.), Cambodia (+2.8 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.5 p.p.) and Russia (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of Mexico (-1.5 p.p.), the UK (-2.1 p.p.) and the United States (-4.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial fur worldwide, comprising 15% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 6.5% share of global imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Italy amounted to +10.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+8.3% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average artificial fur import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 14%. Global import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
