The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The global exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons) and Norway (X tons), together comprising a 12% share of total exports. Russia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Brazil (X tons), the United States (X tons), Poland (X tons), Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+50.6%), Malaysia (+35.3%), Russia (+14.5%), Brazil (+12.5%), Spain (+12.5%), Norway (+5.7%), Ukraine (+2.4%) and Poland (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +50.6% from 2012-2021. France and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-3.7%) and the United States (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Malaysia, Russia and South Korea increased by +5.4, +3.7, +2.3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest artificial and colloidal graphite supplier worldwide, comprising 42% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with an 8.5% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.5% share.

In China, artificial and colloidal graphite exports increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (-3.6% per year) and Germany (+1.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average artificial and colloidal graphite export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+9.6%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, global artificial and colloidal graphite imports surged to X tons, with an increase of 28% on 2020 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.3% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. Imports by Country

Malaysia was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 28% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) held a 7.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Japan (7.3%) and the United States (7.1%). Poland (X tons), India (X tons), Germany (X tons), South Korea (X tons), China (X tons), France (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations imports, with a CAGR of +46.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+20.3%), Thailand (+15.5%), Turkey (+14.6%), India (+12.0%), Poland (+9.1%), China (+4.8%) and Japan (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. South Korea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-1.0%), the United States (-3.3%) and France (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Malaysia (+27 p.p.), Indonesia (+5.4 p.p.) and India (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-2.2 p.p.), France (-2.8 p.p.), Germany (-3.1 p.p.), Japan (-3.4 p.p.) and the United States (-8.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Poland ($X) and China ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 36% of global imports.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +30.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average artificial and colloidal graphite import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+17.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
