In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 21%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Ireland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented the major exporters of cereal pellets (excluding wheat)in the world, together creating 40% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.6% share, followed by Belgium (7.6%), Spain (4.7%) and Sweden (4.5%). Canada (X tons), the United States (X tons), Australia (X tons), France (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +177.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ireland ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 46% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Sweden, the United States, Australia, Argentina, France, Bulgaria and Canada, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Sweden, with a CAGR of +155.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average non-wheat cereal pellets export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 36%. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +97.6% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The Netherlands was the main importer of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) in the world, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2021. Spain (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the UK (9.9%), Slovakia (5.5%), Portugal (5.3%) and Italy (5.3%). Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-wheat cereal pellets imports into the Netherlands stood at +8.1%. At the same time, Nigeria (+40.6%), the UK (+19.4%), Slovakia (+11.8%), Italy (+9.3%), the Czech Republic (+5.4%) and Portugal (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +40.6% from 2012-2021. Spain and Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-11.3%) and France (-14.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+16 p.p.), the UK (+7.7 p.p.), Slovakia (+3.2 p.p.) and Italy (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-6.6 p.p.) and France (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-wheat cereal pellets importing markets worldwide were the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 42% of global imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Nigeria, Portugal, Romania, Italy, the Czech Republic, France and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +65.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average non-wheat cereal pellets import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
