In value terms, cherry exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. The global exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Chile represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 43% of total exports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (5.6%). The following exporters - the United States (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Spain (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 15% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cherry supplying countries worldwide were Chile ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and the United States ($X), together accounting for 81% of global exports.

Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +29.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cherry export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, global cherry imports shrank markedly to X tons, waning by -15.9% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, cherry imports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main importer of cherries, committing 43% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), generating a 26% share of total imports. Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons), Canada (X tons), Austria (X tons), Russia (X tons) and the UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +24.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+18.4% per year) and the United States (+12.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average cherry import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 25% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
