The global spacecraft market surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a deep contraction. Global consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Spacecraft Production

In value terms, spacecraft production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 139%. Over the period under review, global production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles increased by 1,431% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 3,416%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, spacecraft exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 79%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, India (X units) represented the largest exporter of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles, creating 61% of total exports. The UK (X units) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (16%). China (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles exports, with a CAGR of +241.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+152.0%), China (+109.3%) and the UK (+94.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of India (+61 p.p.), the UK (+17 p.p.), France (+16 p.p.) and China (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 48% share of global exports.

China, with a CAGR of +115.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average spacecraft export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -93.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 843% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In general, imports, however, posted modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 179% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, spacecraft imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 41%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Ireland (X units) and Russia (X units) represented the key importers of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehiclesaround the world, together recording approx. 67% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the UK (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units), together making up a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Brazil (X units), Spain (X units) and Greece (X units) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +5,819.5%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average spacecraft import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -49.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 63% against the previous year.
