Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest common pottery supplier worldwide, comprising 25% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Portugal ($X), with a 12% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +12.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Portugal (+9.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.7% per year).

In 2022, the average common pottery export price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell modestly in the following year.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012-2022. Australia, France, Canada, the UK and South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United States (+11 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of the UK (-1.5 p.p.) and Russia (-2.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
