In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Italy (X tons), the United States (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented the main exporters of copper bars, wire and plates, together mixing up 42% of total exports. The following exporters - South Korea (X tons), Poland (X tons), Japan (X tons), Canada (X tons), France (X tons), China (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - each reached a 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper bars, wire and plates exports from Germany stood at +1.3%. At the same time, China (+14.1%), the United Arab Emirates (+7.5%), Canada (+4.1%), Japan (+3.2%), Poland (+2.7%), Belgium (+2.3%) and Italy (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.1% from 2012-2021. Spain, South Korea, the United States and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+2.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -5.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest copper bars, wire and plates supplier worldwide, comprising 18% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 5.9% share of global exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at +2.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+9.8% per year) and Japan (+3.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 38% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, the United States (X tons), China (X tons), Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Mexico (X tons), India (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major importer of copper bars, wire and plates in the world, generating 49% of total import. Turkey (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 21% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Germany, France, Mexico, Thailand, India, the Czech Republic, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Poland, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +15.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for copper bars, wire and plates amounted to $X per ton, surging by 36% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in China ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
