Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. In value terms, cotton embroidery production rose significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -22.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, global production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports
After two years of growth, overseas shipments of cotton embroidery in the piece decreased by -2.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, cotton embroidery exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +82.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. The global exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
China prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2022. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 9.5% share, followed by Thailand (7.3%). Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Spain (+37.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +37.0% from 2012-2022. Thailand and India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. China (+19 p.p.) and Spain (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Thailand and India saw its share reduced by -4.2% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest cotton embroidery supplier worldwide, comprising 63% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by India, with a 7.3% share.
In China, cotton embroidery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+1.4% per year) and India (-4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cotton embroidery export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.9%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Cotton Embroidery Imports
Imports
Global cotton embroidery imports soared to X tons in 2022, jumping by 32% compared with the previous year. In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cotton embroidery imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) was the key importer of cotton embroidery in the piece, comprising 28% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Malaysia (11%), Nigeria (9.7%) and Gambia (5.1%). Togo (X tons), Brazil (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton embroidery imports into Spain stood at +14.1%. At the same time, Malaysia (+54.3%), Morocco (+25.1%), Senegal (+21.5%), Togo (+9.8%), Gambia (+9.2%), Vietnam (+4.9%) and Bangladesh (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +54.3% from 2012-2022. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.7%) and Brazil (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (+17 p.p.), Malaysia (+11 p.p.), Senegal (+9.6 p.p.), Gambia (+1.9 p.p.) and Togo (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.3 p.p.), Brazil (-4.4 p.p.) and Nigeria (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest cotton embroidery importing markets worldwide were Senegal ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for 40% of global imports. The United Arab Emirates, Gambia, Brazil, Togo, Malaysia, Vietnam, Morocco and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
Among the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +45.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cotton embroidery import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -24.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 7.7%. Global import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
