For the third year in a row, the global crude maize oil market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.1% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Global consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Crude Maize Oil Production
In value terms, crude maize oil production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, global production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, global crude maize oil exports fell to X tons, reducing by -7.6% compared with 2021. Overall, exports saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude maize oil exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Canada (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the largest exporters of crude maize (corn) oil, together generating 82% of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - each amounted to a 7.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +91.5%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest crude maize oil supplier worldwide, comprising 39% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of global exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United States totaled -8.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+3.8% per year) and Hungary (+0.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average crude maize oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Maize Oil Imports
Imports
In 2022, overseas purchases of crude maize (corn) oil increased by 5.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude maize oil imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of crude maize oil imports in 2022 were the United States (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together accounting for 70% of total import. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Greece (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +37.5%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 41% share of global imports.
Among the main importing countries, Singapore, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average crude maize oil import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 51% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
