The global crane market fell slightly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the global market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crane production declined modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crane exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China was the major exporter of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane in the world, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 31% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Germany (X units), Italy (X units) and Japan (X units), together making up a 29% share of total exports. Spain (X units), Austria (X units), the United States (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units) and South Korea (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to crane exports from China stood at +2.4%. At the same time, Poland (+7.4%), France (+6.1%), the Netherlands (+2.3%) and Austria (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012-2022. Italy and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-1.1%), Spain (-2.8%), South Korea (-5.4%) and the United States (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+8.4 p.p.) and Italy (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the United States saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest crane supplier worldwide, comprising 28% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of global exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +2.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-1.9% per year) and Italy (+1.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average crane export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 9.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while South Korea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Global imports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
