The global desktop computer market surged to $X in 2021, growing by 127% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a resilient increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, desktop computer production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.5%. Global production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of desktop computers increased by 33% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, desktop computer exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +80.2% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) represented the key exporter of desktop computers, generating 32% of total exports. Belgium (X units) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (8.2%), the Netherlands (7.7%), Taiwan (Chinese) (6.8%) and Malaysia (4.9%). The following exporters - Germany (X units), Singapore (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), the UK (X units), the United States (X units) and France (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from China stood at -5.2%. At the same time, Belgium (+36.5%), Poland (+31.1%), the Czech Republic (+13.5%), the Netherlands (+12.1%), Germany (+4.2%), Malaysia (+3.9%), Singapore (+3.3%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.4%) and France (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +36.5% from 2012-2021. The UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United States (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic increased by +11, +7.4, +4.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest desktop computer supplier worldwide, comprising 26% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China stood at -2.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+38.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+11.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average desktop computer export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+21.7%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Desktop Computer Imports

In 2021, global imports of desktop computers surged to X units, rising by 16% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 31%. Global imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, desktop computer imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X units), distantly followed by Singapore (X units), the Netherlands (X units), El Salvador (X units), Germany (X units) and France (X units) were the main importers of desktop computers, together constituting 46% of total imports. The following importers - Canada (X units), the UK (X units), Malaysia (X units), Italy (X units), Japan (X units), Belgium (X units) and Poland (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.
Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+29.5%), Singapore (+20.7%), Germany (+17.2%), Poland (+11.9%), Belgium (+8.7%), Italy (+6.8%), the Netherlands (+5.3%), Canada (+2.8%), El Salvador (+2.2%) and France (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2021. Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+4.9 p.p.), Germany (+3.3 p.p.), Malaysia (+3 p.p.) and the United States (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while the UK saw its share reduced by -3.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 36% of global imports. France, the UK, Canada, Italy, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Belgium and El Salvador lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +19.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average desktop computer import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 20%. Global import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
