At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+10.3%) and Belgium (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Malaysia, France and Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United States (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest diethanolamine supplying countries worldwide were Saudi Arabia ($X), Belgium ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 71% of global exports. Sweden, the United States, France and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +7.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average diethanolamine export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

After five years of growth, purchases abroad of diethanolamine and its salts decreased by -8.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +42.9% against 2015 indices. China represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 33% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United States (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and India (X tons), together achieving a 30% share of total imports. Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+39.4%), Thailand (+31.2%), Singapore (+14.2%), Turkey (+11.1%), India (+7.7%), Belgium (+5.4%), the United States (+3.6%) and Spain (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-1.2%) and Germany (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates increased by +8.1, +3.5 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest diethanolamine importing markets worldwide were China ($X), the United States ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 54% share of global imports. Belgium, Italy, Turkey, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +34.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
